Mark had his 2 month well baby appointment Monday. Can you believe he is two months already? In some ways it seems like it was just yesterday and in others it seems like years ago. Anyway, Mark weighed 7 lbs 9 oz which puts him up a pound since he left the hospital three weeks ago and almost 4 lbs since he was born. He's more than doubled his birth weight already! He's 21 inches but I think he is actually longer since the paper she measured on him folded up when she actually was measuring. Anyway, he has grown 4 inches at least! Seems that the NICU did a pretty good job of creating a great environment for him to thrive until he got closer to his due date. His head was 14 inches. Tiny still really but when you think about it, his due date was Saturday so a 7 lbs 9 oz baby 21 inches long with a head 14 inches is just right for a full term newborn. Maybe just a little low on weight for a 40 weeker but pretty good considering how early he was!
The best news is that he doesn't have to be on his oxygen and monitors in the car anymore. He really never needed to be but they wanted to be on the safe side and I think it was a good idea but those things were a pain. They never went off other then when the leads came loose or when his heartrate went up when he was really upset. Neither were things that were wrong with him or needed to be worried about so it never alarmed for a problem and so Dr.Taylor decided that it was overkill (as the nurse practitioner who sent him home thought also but there was one doctor in the NICU who decided he needed them). It's a happy to not have to stick the oxygen up his nose and try to keep his leads on him! He really hated it and I really hated the leads coming off and making the monitor alarm.
Other great news is that other then size, Mark is pretty much where he should be developmentally, for a two month old. Dr.Taylor is amazed at how well he is doing and his progress. He said that by looking at him he would never guess that he was a preemie. He would just think that he is a brand newborn. All great news. And, since he is gaining so well we only have to bring him in for weight checks once a week. He is gaining so much more consistently then my girls ever did!
